Unarmed Security Guard Requirements
Eligibility Criteria:
Age & Citizenship Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien with proper documentation
Character & Fitness Standards:
- Demonstrate good moral character
- No court declarations of mental incompetency (unless subsequently declared competent)
- Free from habitual substance abuse or dependencies that would impair job performance
- No physical or mental disabilities that would prevent effective security duty performance
Criminal Background Requirements:
- No felony convictions within the past 5 years
- No misdemeanor convictions within the past 5 years for:
- Firearms-related offenses
- Shoplifting or theft
- Assault or battery
- Controlled substance offenses
Training Requirements: Complete a minimum of 4 hours of state-approved basic training covering:
- Legal orientation and authority limitations
- Emergency response procedures
- Professional conduct and general duties
- Tennessee-specific regulations
Application Process:
- Complete Training - Finish your 4-hour approved course
- Gather Documents - Collect proof of training completion and identification
