Getting licensed
Getting Your Delaware Guard Card
Five steps, start to finish.
Complete a Board-approved training program. The Delaware Board of Examiners requires unarmed guards to complete a Board-approved training program - Defencify is listed as an approved provider on the Delaware State Police site. Armed guards complete an additional 40-hour firearms course.
Pass your proctored exam. Delaware requires a proctored exam with a score of at least 75%, taken at a Delaware Tech campus.
Get fingerprinted for your background check. The Board requires an SBI and FBI fingerprint-based background check, with disqualifiers for felonies and certain misdemeanors going back 7 years.
Submit your application to DSP. Apply through the Delaware State Police Professional Licensing section and pay the application fee set by DSP to receive your Yellow Card (unarmed) or Red Card (armed).
Renew every 5 years - annually if armed. Your card is valid for 5 years. If you carry a Red Card, you also complete annual firearms re-qualification by December 31 each year.
