Getting Your Illinois PERC Card
Five steps, start to finish.
Apply for your PERC Card. Submit your application to IDFPR and pay the $55 fee - it's non-refundable, so double-check everything before you submit.
Get fingerprinted. Use an approved vendor for your background check, then wait for IDFPR's review.
Complete your 20-hour basic training. Due within 30 days of your employment start date. This course covers it.
Complete an additional 8 hours. Due within 6 months of your start date, on topics your employer chooses.
Renew every 3 years. Your PERC card is good for 3 years. Starting the year after your first anniversary, you'll need 8 hours of refresher training annually to stay current.

Common Questions
How fast can I get my Illinois PERC card?
Once you submit your application, pay the $55 fee, and pass your background check, IDFPR issues your PERC card. Your 20-hour basic training is due within 30 days of your employment start date, and you can complete it online at your own pace.
What does it cost to get licensed in Illinois?
The IDFPR PERC application fee is $55. If you're applying for an armed guard role, add a $75 Firearm Control Card fee. Fingerprinting fees are paid directly to your background check vendor and vary by provider.
Is Defencify's training approved by IDFPR?

Do I need harassment prevention training too?
If you have one or more employees in Illinois, state law (Illinois Human Rights Act, Sections 2-109 and 2-110) requires sexual harassment prevention training for your whole team, every calendar year. New hires need it as soon as possible after they start.
How long does my PERC card last, and what's renewal like?
Your Illinois PERC card is valid for 3 years. To stay current, you'll also need 8 hours of refresher training every calendar year, starting the year after your first employment anniversary.
