This mandatory 24-hour class has been designed to provide the training required by the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies for initial licensing as an unarmed private security guard in Georgia. The class is broken into eleven "modules." The eleven modules are: The Nature and Role of Private Security; Legal Responsibilities of Private Security; Use of Force; Documentation & Report Writing; Patrol Techniques; Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction; Communication and its Importance; Public Relations - Community and Client; Situational Response - Part I; Situational Response - Part II and Security Ethics.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Georgia BPDSA-approved certificate of completion to be used as proof of education when applying for their Georgia unarmed security guard license. This course contains training totaling 24 hours of training.
In Georgia, the process for obtaining a security guard license often called a "guard card," varies based on whether you intend to work as an unarmed or armed security guard.
Unarmed Security Guard Requirements:
1. Age and Citizenship:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident authorized to work in the United States.
2. Education:
- Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
3. Background Check:
- Undergo a criminal background check.
- Submit fingerprints for verification.
4. Training:
- Complete a minimum of 24 hours of classroom instruction covering topics such as:
- Role of private security.
- Legal aspects.
- Patrol and observation.
- Incident response.
- Security resources.
- First aid overview.
- Customer service issues.
- This training can be provided by your employer or through a state-certified facility like Defencify Training.
It's important to note that unarmed security guards in Georgia are not required to register with the Georgia State Board of Private Detective & Security Agencies. However, they must adhere to the Board's training standards and regulations.
Armed Security Guard Requirements:
1. Age:
- Be at least 21 years old.
2. Additional Training:
- Complete an extra 15 hours of firearms training, which includes:
- Liability issues.
- Use of deadly force.
- Types of handguns.
- Ballistics.
- Range training.
- Achieve a minimum score of 80% on a written exam and a firing range test.
3. Registration:
- Armed security guards must register with the Georgia State Board of Private Detective & Security Agencies. The employing agency typically submits the registration application on behalf of the employee.
4. Weapons Carry License (WCL):
- Obtain a WCL, which involves additional background checks and compliance with state regulations.
