  • Background investigation covers criminal history, arrests, and legal issues

3. Live Scan Fingerprinting Procedure:

  • Complete using the Security Guard Request for Live Scan Service form
  • Ensures BSIS receives background information promptly and securely

4. Pre-License Training Requirements (8 Hours - Live Instructor Required):

Important: This initial training is NOT available online and must be completed with a live instructor before applying for your guard card.

Required Pre-License Courses:

  • Power to Arrest (3 hours): Focuses on responsibilities and ethics of security guards, including legal aspects of arrest authority and limitations
  • Appropriate Use of Force (5 hours): Designed to introduce, instruct, and familiarize applicants with proper use of force topics listed in Section 7583.7 of the Business and Professions Code
