In Alabama, security officers and armed security officers are licensed by the Alabama Security Regulatory Board (ASRB) under Chapter 27C of the Alabama Code. To renew a Security Officer or Armed Security Officer license, you must complete Board-approved refresher training and meet all renewal conditions.

Refresher Training Requirement

For license renewal, the ASRB requires a minimum of 8 hours of Refresher Training from a Certified Trainer for both Security Officers and Armed Security Officers.
On the Personal License Application, you must certify that you have completed this refresher training and summarize the training in the form, with proof of training attached (certificate or transcript).
Armed officers must also complete Board-required firearms training and annual firearms refresher, including passing scores on ASRB-mandated courses of fire.

Initial board-approved training for a new Security Officer license must be at least 8 hours, delivered by a Certified Trainer.
