To obtain a security guard license, commonly known as a "guard card," in California, you must fulfill specific requirements set by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). The process involves several steps:
1. Age Requirement:
• You must be at least 18 years old.
2. Criminal Background Check:
• Undergo a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This involves submitting fingerprints via Live Scan.
3. Training Requirements:
• Initial Training (8 hours): Before applying, you must complete an 8-hour live instructor training course (not offered by Defencify) covering:

Power to Arrest (3 hours): Focuses on the responsibilities and ethics of a security guard, including the legal aspects of arrest.
Appropriate Use of Force (5 hours): Designed to introduce, instruct, and familiarize you with the appropriate use of force topics listed in section 7583.7 of the Business and Professions Code.

• Additional Training (32 hours): After receiving your guard card, complete an additional 32 hours of training:

Within 30 Days: 16 hours of mandatory courses.
Within 6 Months: 16 hours of elective courses.
